external hard drive files lost

This is so not fun to report but recently I had a dear client of ours bring their external hard drive in reporting external hard drive files lost.

They had been considering our services but turned us down, not sure why, could be the expense perhaps. I understood though.

About 2 months later they called me to say their external stopped working. Upon inspection it was discovered the external case had corrupted the partition table and the drive was not working at all anymore. We sent the drive out to a specialty shop for inspection and to retreive all their data was going to cost them $700.00 !

I was quite sad to hear that.

Restore a file and saved my butt again!

It’s true, if your data is off site you’ll sleep better at night because if you have to restore a file you need to know your backups are running.

Would you believe that again today while working away in excel I copied one file over the other?

It seems I was quite content with just thinking about other things at the time, you know, not fully paying attention.

Then Alan our office admin comes in, he’s like, “Chaaaaad….. where did you put all my notes from the xls file I’ve been working in”? It was then that my open hand hit my forehead, darn dit it again!

Yes, even the guy’s that provide off site data backup services lose their files. Anyhow, opened our restore a file software, punched in the password, Alan now has his data and is quite happy, I’m happy too because the information was sales calls related

Restore Accounting Data ….

As much as we hate to see bad stuff happen to people trying to run an honest business we sure are happy to help restore files. Just had another client call who had been working on a file but made a mistake on it, in this particular accounting package it was year end and there was no way to restore accounting data from it so they called us for a restore.

After a few minutes all was restored, it feel nice making someones day, that’s what we’re here for

overwrote my file - how to restore from backup with a managed off site backup service

There are tons of reasons everyone should have a managed off site backup service in place.

Here’s what just happened to me:

I overwrote my file!!

Here’s how I did that:

I was doing up a quote for a potential client of mine from a power point presentation that I’d created for something else and I was quite happy with it. I opened the file and began making changes. Then forgot to save it with a new name!!!

After many more changes I realized I overwrote the original. I thought to myself, not to worry I’ll just make the changes back to how it was. Yah well that would have take 20 minutes and I’m sure it probly wouldn’t have been the same anyway.

So I fired up our backup software, click my backup set and waited for it to show the listing of files on the server. Entered my password and restored the file right back to where it was originally. LOVE IT!!!!!!
